About Salem, Oregon

Salem, Oregon, the state capital and county seat of Marion County is home to about 150,000 people, situated in the Willamette Valley, a productive agricultural region. The city takes its name from the Hebrew word Shalom, meaning peace, and is sometimes called the Cherry City because of the local orchards.

Salem visitors can explore local history at the Mission Mill and Bush House Museums, tour the Oregon State Capitol and sample Willamette Valley wines at Bethel Heights and Redhawk Vineyards
Visitors have good things to say about Salem's chain hotels, giving the Shilo, Inn, Best Western Mill Creek, Travelodge and Residence Inn high marks. Other popular places to stay include the Phoenix Grand Hotel and Phoenix Inn Suites. Bethel Heights Farm offers bed and breakfast accommodation.
